Rita McBride: Particulates

Art Show: 26/03/2023 • All Day • Los Angeles

Event Details

Composed of high-intensity laser beams, water molecules, and the dust particles in the air, the work prompts reconsideration of fundamental elements of sculpture such as mass, scale, verticality, and surface. Stretching across the former commercial space at the corner of the office tower that houses the museum, Particulates is a rotated, hyperbolic parabola structure that is both optical and ephemeral. McBride first started exploring this form in the 1990s with such towering public works as Mae West (2011), a 170-foot sculpture in the town of Munich-Bogenhausen.

Presented by the Hammer Museum, and curated by Connie Butler, the show runs until 3 March 2024.
