Jon Young (b.1981, Winston Salem, North Carolina) is an artist living and working in St. Louis, Missouri. A tribal member of the Catawba Indian Nation in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Young explores the development of language and signage in the American West. In Young’s wood, sand, and fabric wallworks and sculptures, the artist adopts and appropriates symbols from cave paintings, ancient pottery, and imagery of Western films and popular cartoons.
